For a short while, I have been using Salomon Speedcross 3 and it was great during the summer but when the rain started falling in, the shoes weaknesses got into me. I slip and tumble when the terrain is mostly rocks and roots so I decided to look for something has a wider range of technical terrains after all the Speedcross was designed for trail running.

The Salomon salesman guided me that the XA Pro 3D is more suitable for my needs during hikes. He highlighted some of the features I appreciate now when using XA Pro.

The Contagrip for superior traction on all types of terrain.
The mudguard which is the protective material all around the base of the shoe.
And most important of all, the 3D chassis of the shoe that will provide the stability you need especially during major hikes.

Overall, I love these shoes for its style and color range, breathability, and stability intended for trekking and hiking but for trail running I wouldn’t go for these. I feel it’s a bit heavy and slippery for trail running. Also another consideration, these shoes are a bit pricey but expect nothing less but superior performance from Salomon.
