DSWD NROC

Do you want to volunteer in repacking donations for typhoon victims?

You can help any day of any week at DSWD NROC, Pasay. They have a continuous schedule of repacking goods, with or without typhoon or disaster.

Last October 13, 2018, we, members of Green Mountain Tribe Inc. volunteered in repacking donations at DSWD NROC, Pasay. We arrived at around 10 in the morning but the gates are open starting at 9AM. We listed our names and the organization we’re in in the registration outside the gates of DSWD NROC.

Upon entering, volunteers should go through a short orientation. During the orientation, we learned that when volunteering at DSWD NROC, you should wear proper casual attire. Closed shoes are required and as much as possible, wear pants, to avoid injuries. We also learned about manual repacking and repacking with the use of machines. Rations for each box is 6-3-3-6 which is 6 kilos of rice, 3 tin can of sardines, 3 tin can of corned beed and 6 sachets of instant coffee. DSWD is also very strict when it comes to quality control inspection of each product. Tin cans with rust are automatically taken away is not allowed to be put on the box of relief goods. Rice are checked thoroughly and should be vacuumed sealed to avoid spoilage. Relief goods should have at least have one year expiration date.

Volunteers should render at least 4-hour shift including the orientation and breaks. When there’s typhoon and there’s need for huge amount of relief goods, the operation runs for 24/7, Monday-Sunday.

We are assigned in Warehouse E. We started our shift from assembling DSWD boxes to actual repacking of the donations.
